These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Pharmachameleon mobile application ("Application") available on iOS and Android, and any related services we operate (collectively, the "Service"). Pharmachameleon is referred to in these Terms as "we," "us," or "Service Provider."
By downloading or using the Application, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. Please read both documents carefully before using the Application.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not download or use the Application.
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Application. Pharmachameleon manages sensitive health information — including medication schedules, dosages, and health-related reminders — and is not intended for use by minors. By using the Application, you represent that you are 18 or older and are legally permitted to enter into a binding agreement under applicable law.
The Application is intended for personal, non-commercial use only.
By using the Application, you acknowledge and agree that:
WE MAKE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES REGARDING THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR FITNESS FOR ANY PURPOSE OF ANY MEDICATION INFORMATION WITHIN THE APPLICATION. ANY ACTION YOU TAKE BASED ON CONTENT, REMINDERS, OR SUGGESTIONS PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE IS TAKEN AT YOUR SOLE RISK.
Pharmachameleon provides medication reminder notifications as a convenience feature. However, we cannot guarantee that reminders will be delivered on time, at all, or in any specific format. Reminder delivery depends on factors outside our control, including:
The Application includes an optional scan feature that uses optical character recognition ("OCR") technology to read medication information from images of prescription labels or medication packaging. This feature is powered by Tesseract.js, an open-source OCR engine.
By using this feature, you acknowledge that:
To use the Application, you must create an account by providing your email address, a username, a password, and your timezone. You agree to:
We protect your account using industry-standard JWT authentication with short-lived access tokens and secure refresh token rotation. Passwords are cryptographically hashed and are never stored or transmitted in plain text.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Application on a mobile device you own or control, for personal and non-commercial purposes only.
You may not:
If you violate any of these restrictions, this license will automatically terminate and you may be subject to legal liability.
You agree to use the Application only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:
Pharmachameleon is a private, single-user application. Your medication data is visible only to you. The Application does not include any features for sharing, posting, or transmitting content to other users.
We strongly advise against using the Application on a jailbroken or rooted device. Jailbreaking (iOS) or rooting (Android) removes operating system security restrictions and may:
If you choose to use the Application on a jailbroken or rooted device, you do so entirely at your own risk. We are not responsible for any data breach, data loss, or Application failure resulting from your use of a modified device.
The Application relies on the following third-party services and public government databases to operate. By using the Application, you acknowledge that these services are subject to their own terms of service and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. Where noted, certain entries are publicly available government drug reference databases — your personal information is never transmitted to those services.

The data stored in our internal reference tables (such as medication names, forms, strengths, and conditions) may be sourced from publicly available third-party drug databases and medical nomenclature systems. These datasets are used solely to power search suggestions and data entry assistance — your personal information is never transmitted to any source from which this data originates.
We are not responsible for the actions, failures, policies, or downtime of any third-party service. Some features of the Application — particularly medication reminder delivery — depend on these services and cannot be guaranteed.
We do not use any advertising networks, behavioral tracking services, analytics platforms, or crash reporting services. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
The Application and all its content, features, and functionality — including but not limited to its code, design, trademarks, service marks, trade names, logos, and branding — are the exclusive property of Pharmachameleon and its licensors. Upon termination for any reason, your right to use the Application ends immediately and you must delete all copies from your devices. Termination does not relieve you of any obligations you incurred prior to termination.
Many features of the Application require an active internet connection, which may be provided via Wi-Fi or your mobile data plan. We are not responsible if the Application does not function at full capacity due to lack of network access, or for any data charges you incur from your mobile carrier while using the Application.
We do not guarantee that the Application will:
We may suspend the Application temporarily for maintenance. We are not obligated to provide technical support, and we may update or change Application features at any time.
If you allow your device battery to drain and cannot access the Application as a result, that is your responsibility. We are not liable for missed reminders or data access issues resulting from device failure or low battery.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under applicable consumer protection laws that cannot be lawfully excluded.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PHARMACHAMELEON SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APPLICATION, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and notify you by posting the new Terms within the Application or by sending an email to the address associated with your account. For material changes, we will provide at least 14 days' advance notice before the changes take effect for existing users.
Your continued use of the Application after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Application and delete your account before the changes take effect.
Previous versions of these Terms are available upon request at ab36@uab.edu.
We may release updates to the Application from time to time to improve functionality, address security vulnerabilities, or maintain compatibility with operating system changes. We recommend installing updates when they are available. If you choose not to install an update:
We may also discontinue the Application at any time. If we decide to discontinue the Application, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance through the Application or by email.
